About Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a unique profession because chiropractors focus on locating, analyzing, and correcting vertebral subluxations. Vertebral subluxations are subtle misalignments of the spine that can interfere with the proper function of the nervous system. Arthritic changes are more prone to occur the longer the spine remains subluxated. The spine acts as the communication conduit between the brain and the rest of the body, and it is important to keep communications flowing freely. We work hard and play hard so it is not surprising that the spine starts to show wear and tear.

At times, two or more vertebra may become fixated or “stuck” and we might begin to see a limitation in our range of motion and flexibility. These subluxations are often described by people as popping, cracking, or grinding. Changes in the joint begin to appear at these places in the spine. Adjustments can help lessen the  progression of joint deterioration and keep the nervous system functioning at its best. Ligaments and muscles can also become stretched and weak due to subluxations. After adjustments it takes time to heal and for inflammation to go away.

Headaches and back pain are a common issue, visiting a chiropractor can be helpful in determining if the source of this pain is due to the misalignment of the spine or surrounding structures.

I consider chiropractic to be part of a healthy lifestyle. We put our seat belts on to keep us from injury, but very often do not give our spine the personalized attention that is needed for optimum health.  We are going to have our spines our entire life, and we should not neglect caring for it.  In the long run we are healthier for the periodic spinal checkups.

People often ask how long it will take before they see an improvement in their health, or how long they have to keep coming. The answer depends entirely on the individual. Many factors come into play such as age, activity level, occupation, diet, stress levels, quality of sleep, and overall health status. There are no hard and fast rules. Many people view chiropractic care as a healthy lifestyle choice and get regular periodic adjustments, while others use it as a treatment or therapy for aches and pains. The frequency depends on an individuals’ goals and needs. At this office you will sit down with Dr. D’Oria and discuss a plan of care. You are always free to ask questions.

If you find you have stressed your spine and have a problem, come let a professional check it out. That’s what we are here for!
